FRACTIONAL CO2 LASER SKIN RESURFACING
It’s possible to reduce and even eliminate brown spots, wrinkles, acne scarring, and uneven skin tone with Fractional Co2 Laser Skin Resurfacing.
Depending on lifestyle and skin care regimen, results of Co2 resurfacing can last for years. Those with extreme wrinkles, skin damage, and scarring may require more than one treatment, and treatments can be repeated every 6 to 12months.
Co2 laser can be used on the face and decolletage as well as the body including the back, arms, legs, and chest.
HOW THE TREATMENT WORKS
Fractional Co2 laser resurfacing works by damaging a layer of skin, and the body’s natural healing process subsequently encourages new skin to grow.
This regenerative process is created by sending a laser beam deep through the outer layers of the skin, creating thousands of microscopic perforations, similar to a tiny dot print.
When that layer of the skin is damaged the healing process pushes your stem cells into overdrive and causes an extra boost in collagen and elastin production. As you know collagen is the substance that keeps skin looking youthful.
Renewed collagen production reduces wrinkles, fine lines, scarring, dull skin, age spots, skin laxity, and textural irregularities.
WHO IS SUITED TO CO2 LASER RESURFACING?
Fractional CO2 laser skin resurfacing is a safe and effective procedure however, there are some contra-indicators that need to be highlighted if you are considering treatment.
The best clients are those with a light skin tone, skin types 1 through 3. Skin type can be determined during your consultation.
Cold sores and herpes simplex can complicate the healing process; so an antiviral medication should be taken prior to treatment.
Co2 laser can be used to treat acne scarring, however those with active acne have an increased risk of infection.
Individuals currently taking Roaccutane or who have taken it in the last 18 months should refrain from undergoing laser treatments.
Women who are pregnant and breast feeding should avoid treatment due to the use of topical anaesthetic.
The healing process after is not suited to clients that suffer from an immune system disorder.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING TREATMENT?
Your face will be cleansed then a topical numbing cream will be applied, which takes about 45 minutes to be effective.
The treatment feels a little like a “pins and needles” sensation, cool air is blown on the skin, minimising discomfort. The entire face can be treated in as little as 30 minutes. However, treatment time can vary depending on location of treatment and number of passes needed.
After Co2 laser resurfacing treatment, an infra-red LED light treatment helps to accelerate the healing process. We provide up to 4 complimentary LED treatments in the days following treatment.
WHAT TO EXPECT POST TREATMENT
Laser skin resurfacing treatment causes a superficial wound to the skin that takes approximately 1-2 weeks to heal. You might experience mild to moderate swelling. The outer layers of the skin will darken as targeted pigment is expelled, peeling and flaking is normal.
Immediately following your treatment, your body will naturally start working to replace aged tissue cells with new ones. Two weeks after your procedure you will notice healthier, smoother, and younger looking skin which will continue to improve over the next 6 months. Depending on how well you care for your skin and your lifestyle, results can last for years.
After treatment, it is important to take extra special care of your skin to help it heal quickly and safely. Do not pick at skin after treatment and follow aftercare instructions carefully. Sun sensitivity can occur for 4-6 weeks, so it is recommended that you wear sunblock and a protective hat.
All of the skin care products you use after treatment should be gentle, with an emphasis on keeping you skin hydrated and protected from UV rays. Your skin may be sensitive for the first few weeks after treatment, avoid active skin care products that contain retinol as they might cause irritation.
